Kiran Raj Pandey

I am a physician-scientist by training and practice. My current research priorities sit at the intersection of health services and systems design, translation, implementation, and evaluation.

The broader body of my work is driven by a desire to understand the macro factors that shape and influence health services and systems: the progress in science and technology, the shifts in epidemiology, and the influence of political economy. My book, Up Is the Curve: A Genealogy of Healthcare in the Developing World, explores these themes in the developing world context. A review of the book, published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases, is available here.

Currently, I am a consulting physician at Medharma Clinics, and a clinical research scientist at Nepal Applied Mathematics and Informatics Institute for Research. I am also the founder and CEO of Arete Healthsciences--a translational research company focused on clinical decision support systems, and I serve as the Executive Director of the Health AI for All Network (HAINet).

My academic background spans internal medicine, hospital medicine, health services research, and public health. I obtained my medical degree from Kathmandu University in Nepal, followed by residency in Internal Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago. I completed advanced fellowships in Hospital Medicine and Health Services Research at the University of Chicago, where I also earned my Master’s in Public Health Sciences.
